Violin 1010
Violin 1010 is the industry’s first memory appliance capable of supporting both Scalable Memory (DRAM) and High Performance Storage (NAND Flash), making it suitable for a wide range of applications including databases, real-time analysis and high performance storage.

The Violin 1010 offers unprecedented flexibility and allows systems to be built to support a wide range of applications with a variety of memory technologies:
DRAM
Ideally suited for high performance caching, indexes and metadata
Flash
“Hot” content and high performance file storage
Fibre Channel and Ethernet network attachments are supported via a network head and direct attachment through a low latency PCI Express (PCIe) connection. Operating systems supported via an open source PCIe driver include:
- Major Linux releases and distributions
- Windows 32 and 64-bit Operating Systems
- OpenSolaris

“By offering Tier-Ø through Solid State, Violin Memory is giving users options for where they put data. The idea of using a separate appliance for memory makes a lot sense – it allows for the addition of more memory while not being limited to the current implementation. The main key for adoption is performance, and Violin certainly offers that high level of performance people are looking for.”
Benefits
The Violin 1010 is based on Violin Switched Memory (VXM) technology and offers significant benefits:
- 10x improvement in the DRAM density and GByte/Watt over servers
- 1000x improvement in latency and IOPS over disk drives
- Built-in Memory RAID
Features
The Violin 1010 Memory Appliance is designed for high density, performance and reliability and includes the following system components:
- Memory Controller with RAID
- PCI Express interface (Dual 4x & 8x interfaces)
- 84 VIMMS
- Slide-mounted Chassis with Cable Management
- Dual Feed 12V Power
- Redundant Fans and Temperature Monitoring
- Server resident Driver
The Violin 1010 can be configured with up to 504GB of DRAM or 4TB of Flash in a 2U chassis.
