Applications

The growth of the Internet, high speed networking, high resolution sensors and the automated processing of data are fuelling growth in both the size of data-sets and the performance requirements of the applications and storage systems.

Violin's scalable memory solutions address these requirements through two new layers in the Memory-Storage hierarchy:

Extended Memory: The extension of memory overcomes the limits of 64GB per processing board. Extended Memory enables DRAM-based memory systems with capacities of 100 GB to many TByte.
High Performance Storage: Solid state technologies provide orders of magnitude improvements in IOPS and latency over traditional disk arrays.

These two layers fit in the ever-increasing gap between Main Memory and Disk Storage shown in the figure below.
