Accelerate SQL Server

A large real estate database company was struggling to keep up the pace and reduce the time it took to ingest massive amounts of public record data.  They were using combination of local SAN and Direct Attach Storage as well as database repeating to get enough IO to keep their 13 servers utilized.

They were about to order a new SAN and expend to a new Data Center when they ran a trial with the Violin 3200.

The results

  • A “national refresh” job used to run in 11 hours and now 2:12
  • A “daily LA public record” job used to run in 2 hours and now 12 minutes

So now they are taking a fresh look at their business model as jobs that used to be reserved for weekends and nights can now be run during normal business hours.

In addition with two Violin 1010’s they are able to consolidate their 13 servers down to only 2 with still more performance than they have ever experienced and reduce their per-core licensee fees considerably (44 less cores.)

So now their servers are re-purposed and their existing SAN is used for less IO intensive jobs.

“Since we are no longer IO limited, we can now look to how we can improve our entire business model.” – VP Operations
