Performance

Violin Switched Memory (VXM) enables applications with large data-sets and high performance requirements. The key storage metrics that impact application performance are: Latency, IOPS, Bandwidth, Scale.

The Violin 1010 Memory Appliance delivers significant improvements in each of these metrics:

Latency: 3 microseconds; less than 1/1000 of the disk drive seek-latency. The PCIe Host Interface Board also provides lower latency than a Fiber Channel Host Bus Adapter.
I/O Per Second (IOPS): over 3 Million IOPS at 128 byte read block sizes; 50,000 times faster than a disk drive!
Bandwidth: 1.4 GByte/s over a single 20 Gbit/s PCIe x8 interface. Per rack, 16 appliances and interfaces supports 22 GByte/sec of aggregate bandwidth.
Scale: 504GByte DRAM per 2U. Per rack, 8TB of DRAM is supported using less than 7kW of power.

I/O bound applications have seen performance acceleration of 30 to 60 times when comparing the Violin 1010 with disk drive solutions.
